Should I Buy A House in the Winter?

buying house in winter

The common thought regarding Real Estate is that the only time you should buy or sell a home is in the Spring. I'm here to tell you that is a misconception and could make you miss out on a lot of opportunity.

Spring and Summer is filled with busy young families crowding into the top school districts before September starts, which makes the Real Estate market skyrocket during those months.

The problem lies when buyers and sellers start to believe that this is the only time to be on the market. Here are several reasons why buying a home in the Fall and Winter will increase your ability to find the right house.

  •  Only serious sellers will be on the market. This means you can expect a quicker close, as many sellers are trying to move before or right after Christmas.
  • Only serious buyers will be looking. This means you will have less competition! Plus, the sellers won't be exhausted from so many showings, as they would rather have one serious buyer look at their home than 20 looky-lous during the spring.
  • Save money. Looking for a home in the fall can mean you notice the houses that sat overpriced on the market all summer. Now, they are ready to price drop, and just in time for you to come along!
