When I bought my townhome I knew I wouldn’t get a roommate right away. I had the extra space for one, but I wanted to give this whole Airbnb thing a try. After all, traveling with Airbnb has always been a great experience for me!
So I furnished my extra bedroom, took advantage of the free photography AIrbnb offered at the time, and listed the room. I had requests that first week and started accepting guests.
I made $486 my first month on Airbnb and I only rented the room a couple days a week (10 nights that month). The month was February, so those positive 5 star reviews coupled with the spring weather and vacation time approaching, meant booking requests only increased.
Come July, I made $1,060 renting the room out part time.
I can’t rent my room on Airbnb any more thanks to my neighborhood HOA rules changing, but this experience of being an Airbnb host for 1 year certainly opened my eyes to the potential for passive income through short and long term rentals.
There are many articles out there about how to attract more guests or make your room more appealing, so I won’t get into those details. All this is just to say that I highly recommend Airbnb to all of my friends as an incredible side hustle.
